چکیده

UANTITATIVE geneticists have long been aware that correlated responses Q are common in populations under different types of selection. The primary implication of a correlated response is that the character under selection is genetically correlated with another character, though other parameters affect the magnitude of the correlated response. In the course of selection for a single trait, other than a trait pertaining to reproduction, for an extended period of time, one expects sooner or later to encounter a decline in fertility or net reproduction, This has been reported by WIGAN and MATHER (1942), MATHER and HARRISON (1949), ROBERTSON and REEVE (1952), CLAYTON, MORRIS and ROBERTSON (1957) and LERNER (1958). The purpose of this paper is to report on the correlated response of litter size to recurrent selection for post-weaning growth in an experimental population of mice. MACARTHUR (1949) and FALCONER (1955) have both reported increases in litter size associated with selection for large body size and decreases in litter size associated with selection for small size in mice.

Polymorphisms in GDF9 Gene and Its Relationship with Litter Size in Five Breeds of Black Goats

In this study, we investigated the relationship between the genetic polymorphism of growth differentiation factor 9 (GDF9) genes and the litter size in 384 individuals of five breeds of black goats. Four pairs of primers were designed to detect single nucleotide polymorphism of GDF9 gene in goats by PCR-SSCP. The least square was used to analyze the relation between different genotypes and the ...

Genetic correlations between gestation length, piglet survival and early growth

This study is based on 12708 first-parity and 7062 second-parity Yorkshire litters from Swedish nucleus herds; and on 1037 first-parity Yorkshire litters from an experimental herd. Gestation length was analysed together with litter size, piglet mortality and average piglet growth rate. A sire–dam model was used to estimate direct (litter) and maternal (sow) genetic effects. Direct heritability ...

Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) of GDF9 Gene in Bahmaei and Lak Ghashghaei Sheep Breeds and Its Association with Litter Size

Growth differentiation factor 9 (GDF9) belong to the superfamily of transforming growth factor β that is highly expressed in growing ovarian follicles of oocyte, and it has been strongly related to fecundity traits in sheep. Therefore, the GDF9 gene could serve as a genetic marker for improvement of reproductive performance in sheep. Therefore, the aim of this study was to invest...

Growth Intensity of Lambs during Artificial Milk Rearing Depending on Chosen Non Genetic Factors

The aim of the research was to evaluate the influence of sex, breeding group, litter size and age of lambs when placed in lambing pens for their growth rate during rearing. The average daily gain of lambs was evaluated based on their weighing data each week after their placement into lambing pens. Lambs of Improved Valachian, Tsigai and Lacaune breed (n=26) had been gradually integrated to the ...

Genetic Analysis of Ewe Productivity Traits in Baluchi Sheep

The present study was carried out to estimate (co)variance components and genetic parameters for some productivity traits of Baluchi ewes. The data were collected during a 31 year period (1984-2014) at the experimental breeding station of Baluchi sheep, which is located in north-east of Mashhad, Iran. The analysis was based on 14030 records of lambs and 4371 records of ewes. Investigated traits...
